Roompal
Identity Verification Consent
To verify your identity, Roompal needs photos of your government ID and a selfie. Read this before you take them. Verifying is voluntary, but without it you cannot get a Verified badge or use features that require one, such as publishing a listing or co-signing a lease.
1. What we collect
- The type of ID you choose: PhilSys National ID, passport, driver's licence, UMID, SSS ID, PRC ID, postal ID or voter's ID. Renters may also use a student ID.
- A photo of the front of your ID, and of the back for every ID except a passport.
- One selfie.
- The result of a blink check that runs on your phone. No video or camera frames are sent to us.
- Your profile name at the time you submit, and a fingerprint (hash) of each image, so we can later show which images were reviewed.
Your ID photo contains sensitive personal information, such as your ID number, birth date and address. We collect it only with your consent, given below.
2. Why we collect it
We use these photos only to confirm that you are a real person, that the ID appears genuine, and that you are the person on it. This protects renters, landlords and guarantors from fake accounts and rental scams. We do not use them for advertising or for any other purpose.
3. How we check it
- A trained Roompal reviewer compares your selfie with the photo on your ID, by eye. We do not use automated facial recognition and do not create a face template.
- We usually decide within one working day. We may approve, reject, or ask you to retake a photo.
- If we reject your verification, we tell you why. You may appeal once, within 30 days.
4. How we protect it
- All metadata, including GPS location, is removed from each image as soon as it arrives.
- Images are kept in a separate, restricted store in Singapore (Google Cloud, asia-southeast1). They have no web link, so no one, including you, can open them outside our review tools.
- Only Roompal staff in verification and trust and safety roles can view them. Each view is watermarked and logged.
- We never show your ID or selfie to landlords, renters or guarantors.
5. How long we keep it
| Stage | Images deleted |
|---|---|
| You start but do not submit | After 7 days |
| Waiting for review | After 45 days at most |
| We ask you to retake a photo and you do not | After 30 days |
| Approved | Within 7 days |
| Rejected | After 30 days, the appeal period |
| You withdraw before a decision | Immediately |
In every case, images are deleted no later than 80 days after the first upload. After the images are deleted, we keep only a record of the outcome: the result, the reason, the ID type, the image hashes and, if approved, the name verified. That record is deleted when you delete your account.
6. Your choices and rights
- You may withdraw before a decision, and your photos are deleted at once. Starting over deletes the photos taken so far.
- You may withdraw your consent at any time by emailing roompal.ph@gmail.com. We will delete any images we still hold and remove your Verified badge.
- You have all the rights described in the Privacy Policy, including access, correction, erasure, and complaint to the National Privacy Commission.
7. Your consent
By ticking "I agree to the Identity Verification Consent" and continuing, you confirm that the ID is your own, and you consent to Roompal collecting, storing, reviewing and deleting your ID photos, selfie and blink check result as described above.
